Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
2 Attachment(s)
I had been looking hard at the Saiga 12, but it happens to be considered a "regulated firearm" where I live, meaning it is treated as a handgun or what they call an "assault rifle". Essentially I would have to "register" the Saiga.
I'm looking for a 12 Gauge Semi auto (already have an 870 marine magnum) with 18" barrel and some sort of magazine extension. I don't want to spend Benelli type money, but not sure which one of these are better, or if there is something else to even consider: 1) Remington 11-87 Police (with ghost ring sights about $920) 2) Mossberg 930SPX - (also with ghost ring sights about $600) Anyone shot both or one and have an opinion? The $300 difference does not concern me if it means a little better gun. It will be used primarily just as a home defense gun, with maybe some part-time fun shooting clays with friends on a farm. Thanks! |
Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
I have the Mossy so does highwayman (he hooked me up) it's been great . I've shot about 40 rounds through it, no problems.
Go to AR15.com and check out the reviews, there's a rather lengthly thread......they love it. Only other 12 ga. I have is a Remy express....can't beat it for the money. |
Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
Remington is a little better gun, but Mossberg is certainly no slouch. They're good guns.
It's been my observation that the fit and finish is a little better on the Remingtons and the actions are a little tighter. If usability is the main thing the Mossberg will give good service for many years. It's just a matter of choice whether you want to spend the $300 for the little "niceties" you get with the Remington. |

Going to the local gunshop tomorrow to see if he can stir one up. I think I will need a little luck to find one! |
Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
Looked all day for the Mossberg 930 SPX. So far no luck. 2 on gunbroker but from private individuals. My local gun dealers will only do transfers from FFL holders.

Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
The folks over on arfcom really seem to like the Mossy 930 SPX.
They can be hard to find, Mossberg is having no trouble selling them. Try Dick's sporting goods if you have one, or Big 5. (Big 5 sells a TON of Mossbergs) |

Sorry I didn't see this till a few minutes ago, no accessories, but would like a side saddle.......I wouldn't mind everything you mentioned though:banana: Highwayman found ours in Arizona at "Arizona gun runners"......they shipped to a buddy of mine with a FFL. |
Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
I'm gonna find one soon or it's an 1187 police for me. I'd rather have the Mossberg and a case or so of buckshot. Thanks for the info guys!

Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
NEF New England Firearms and H & R....who is now Marlin....who is now Remington....has some very nice shotguns for not much money....the have an autoloader that i think you can get for under $300.
I just picked up a new in box NEF 20 ga "compact" (youth) pump shotgun called a Pardner - a friend won it at a Ducks Unlimited dinner....I gave him $100 for it....very nice little gun for wife/kids/men in tight quarters. Based on the quality....I'd look into the autoloader.....this pump is ever bit as nice as my 870's.... I only have pump shotguns.....do not care for autoloader shotguns. |

Thanks to TA for figuring out yesterday that Clyde Armory stock indicators are not correct. I decided to give them a call to see if they had the FN SLP in stock. Sure enough they had them. A little more pricey than the mossberg, but I know I'm gonna love it.
Should be in the mail to my FFL tomorrow afternoon! |
Re: Which Semi-Auto Shotgun?
I have an extra Saiga if you can't find one.
